Follow the steps below to learn how to apply beard oil and prep your beard for success. 

Step 1: Prep Your Skin 

The best time to apply your beard oil is right after a warm shower. The heat and moisture from the water helps open up your pores and prepares your skin and hair follicles to receive the oil. Since soap and water can dry out your hair and skin, specialized beard wash and conditioner can help your beard look and feel its best. If you don’t want to shower, you can still follow this step at your sink like you would if you were shaving. Speaking of shaving, this is a great time in the process to give yourself a trim or clean up areas around your beard. Most beard oils are safe to apply to freshly shaved skin and can help lock in moisture post-shave.

Step 2: Dry Your Skin

Don’t forget to dry your skin well before applying your oil as excess water will affect how much oil is absorbed. Make sure not to rub your face; instead, pat it dry gently with a towel to avoid irritation.

Step 3: Dispense Beard Oil In Your Palms

It’s time to apply your beard oil. Beard oil usually comes in a bottle with a small dropper or a pump. If using a beard oil with a dropper, gently fill the dropper and dispense 2-3 drops into the palm of your hand. If using a pump, start with one pump into your hand. Another option is to use a beard brush to apply your beard oil. Simply add a nickel-sized dollop to the center of the brush. The amount of oil needed depends on the amount of facial hair you have. Use trial and error to determine the best amount of oil for your needs. Remember, a little goes a long way. Step 4: Apple Beard Oil to Your Facial Hair

Evenly distribute the oil on your hands and fingers. Then, start applying to your beard. Rub across the sides and then down the front. Use your fingers to work the oil through your hair and to the skin underneath. Again, you can use a beard brush as an alternative. The goal is to cover all of your hair from root to tip and your skin, too.

Step 5: Style as Desired

Now that you’ve finished applying your beard oil, it’s time to style your beard. If you have a simple facial hair style, this may be accomplished with a comb or a few runs through your hair with your fingers. If you have a more elaborate style or one that needs a little more shaping, this is the time to apply your beard or stubble balm. That’s right – you can use beard oil and beard balm together; just remember to use both sparingly.
